CULTURE FEATURES
Culture of Food & Wine
Food and wine have played an important role in the development of culture, shaping our society, and reflecting our values and
beliefs. Over the ages, food and wine have figured prominently in art, from cavemen painting on walls with vegetable dye to
contemporary artists today, working in diverse mediums.
Art is also reflected in our food - from food plating as a art form, to product labels which tell a story through their design and more.
This Culture section will explore these topics over time.

Wine Accompanies the
History of Humanity....
In the history of western civilisation wine is not just any kind of drink: it is at the heart of its tradition, myth and metaphor of life. And so, we see it emerge from every age, leaving its mark in every place.
Wine, in short, accompanies the history of humanity since the most ancient times: from Anatolia to Mesopotamia, passing through ancient Egypt and Greece, covering the entire period of Roman Empire and, through Christian times to the Middle Ages, arriving in the nineteenth century.
And over all these centuries, wine had been – and still is – a “topos”, an element of inspiration for artists, in the widest sense of the term. Wine and its world have influenced cultural production in every historic period: figurative arts, music, literature, theatre and cinema have always given it special attention.
